dublin irish fest 2012

you KNOW the weekend is going to be good when the first person you see at the hotel is eileen ivers, along with her husband brian and son adrian! once settled in, it was time to head over to the fest to catch a set by the prodigals. next up, the young dubliners rocked the main stage, which on most nights would have left the crowd happy and well entertained, as they are THAT good! but this crowd grew larger and larger as the time for gaelic storm was near. after swapping humerous stories with patrick and steve, they, along with ryan, peter, and the always lovely jessie headed out to blow the crowd away.  friday’s photos are HERE

saturday brought be to see slide and the always amazing daire bracken (along with the rest of the great band), and his whirling dervish performance. following that were the always fantastic elders (from kc), and moya brennan with her band, t with the maggies. i finished the day with a cool band called SHOOGLENIFTY, a band was somewhat hard to classify, but VERY easy to listen to. we also managed to get TWO group photos of the CELTBORG SOCIETY. by the time the day had morphed into night, the bar hotel filled with a lot of the musicians, and then 4 different seisuns formed in different parts of the hotel.  saturday’s photos are HERE

sunday found me at john whelan’s set. not only is this guy a fantastic musician and performer, he has an AMAZING talent for finding young musicians to play along with him. next up, the band two2many, fronted by the lovely and talented keri mcbride. after that, it was time for the scattering, where most of the bands mix and match for a couple of songs before all coming together for one BIG group song.  sunday’s photos are HERE

once again, the dublin irish fest does NOT disappoint!
